This was the first piece I wrote for a major festival! I can’t thank Petr Kotik enough for seeing something in my ridiculous proposal—an oratorio-style reimagining of J.S. Bach as an American with lung cancer, replete with accordion and cimbalom and folk guitar. This was performed at Ostrava Days 2019, and served as my introduction to an incredible community of avant-garde and experimental composers that I admire and follow to this day.
